Each year since 1995, the Great Neck Arts Center has hosted a gala
performance benefit event. Individuals from the world of the visual
and performing arts are joined by others from the worlds of
business, public service, journalism, finance, architecture,
philanthropy, and education to receive awards for their demonstrated
excellence and commitment to the Arts. Among the artists who have
been singled out for these awards are: Pulitzer Prize and Kennedy
Center Award winning composer/conductor Morton Gould; actress
Shirley Romaine; filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola; artists Larry
Rivers, James Rosenquist, Lou Dorfsman; internationally renowned
sculptor Edwina Sandys; Rock 'N Roll Hall of Fame photographer Bob
Gruen; Rock 'N Roll Lovin' Spoonful musician, Joe Butler; jazz great
trombonist Al Grey, jazz singer Yvette Glover; dancer Savion Glover;
legendary fashion designer Oleg Cassini; and Broadway leading lady
and Tony Award winner Kelli O'Hara. All funds raised at the annual
gala support the School for the Arts, Scholarship Program, and
Outreach Program, which currently serves thousands of students in
the region.
